HISTORY:

An amazing piece of history is attached to this house. The house was already built when it given as a gift to Ozias Marvin Bennet from his father, William Bennett when Ozias came back from the war of 1812. Both the Marvins and the Bennetts were original area settlers with the first here in the mid 1600s. Both were prominent; land owning families. The Bennetts owned 1200 acres in Compo which was originally part of Fairfield. The house stayed in the Bennett family for over a hundred years as a federal colonial and was purchased by Thomas family in 1894. The Thomas family were four siblings who owned the house equally. The historical society calls it the Ozias Bennett // William Thomas house but it was Lizzie, his sister, who was the eldest and she was listed as head of household in the census.  Lizzie and the Thomas family left their mark on Westport; purchasing and selling property in the area. Nearby Thomas Road is named after this family who transformed this home into a gracious and modern-for-the-time Queen Ann Victorian with a splendid front porch. They saw 70 seasons here. Keeping with the females doing powerful things, the next family to own this house were the Heneage family. Jackie Heneage was the very first femail first selectman of Westport. She ran the town with skill for many years and she was a champion for antique home preservation. 

PRESERVATION AWARD

The current sellers have lived here for over 25 years. The Westport Historical Society recognized their accomplishment in preserving the home during their extensive 2009-2010 renovation. They are true heroes of preservation. The home is now ready for the next family to care for this gem.
